....Pricing is based on complete auto window tinting jobs ( excluding front windshields and sunroofs ) to cars with " Clean " Glass that has had no previous window film applied. Film removal is priced at $50.00 per hour.... Average removal time on 4 door cars is approximately 2 (on most) to 3 (on most severely sun baked, but not all) hours. Prices do vary on particular removal jobs depending on the age and quality of the original window film. We do accept cash, local checks, and major credit cards. You can call us for exact quotes at Blairs Texas Window Tinting & more in Dallas,TX. (972) 783-6005 during our normal business hours
Note* We have a lot of people come in with film problems to get a price on how much to remove film they just had installed months ago by someone who did it for them "cheap" only to find their "cheap" deal turned into not so cheap by added removal costs. Then they comment that they went back to have repairs done and only received lip service or the place turned into a Chinese food restaurant, Laundry, or other...
So what we're trying to convey by this notation is not to discredit the window tinting industry (because it's a pretty good industry) but to make you weary of ridiculously low priced jobs or buy this and get this free gimmicks. It's a shame but true that these deals are not designed with your interests in mind and are usually last resort measures for their interests only. Window tinting of any kind should not be viewed just as a commodity because there is more to it than that. Good window tinting jobs can not be done for next to nothing. Good jobs take time, knowledge, skill, and high quality film to achieve a high level of perfection. These ingredients do cost a little, but are well worth the investment on your expensive car(s).
The second question callers ask is........
Will my rear defroster cause my window film to bubble?
". A lot of people see cars driving down the road with just their rear window bubbled. This is not due to the rear defroster because if you think about it, it gets much hotter sitting in the sun in the summer than when you use it when the window gets fogged. In fact, window film helps defrosters work faster by distributing the mild heat across the glass a little quicker. The bubbled cars you see are usually cars that the window film is at the end of it's life span. Generally back windows are the first to wear out because they take more of a direct hit from the sun (angled more towards the sky) than the sides do. The sides tend to follow the back window wearing out by about 1 year (or so). All window films out there will eventually wear out (like tires, shocks, brakes, etc...) . You're better off by the film taking all the sun's abuse and wearing out than your upholstery (less money spent on repairs) This is where the quality comes into play. Better films last longer than cheaper films do.
The Third question callers ask if they have " dead " window tint on their cars is..............
Will removing window film from my car ruin my rear window defroster?
Usually we don't see many problems with defrosters and auto window film removals if good quality film had been used previously. The problems we do see is when someone's window film dies (when it wears out " bubbles ") and it is left on the vehicle in a " dead state " through a couple of hot Texas summers. The film tends to become " sun baked ". In these conditions the window tinting becomes brittle and usually has to be scraped with a razor thus sometimes damaging defroster lines. Try to keep in mind that people usually have their window tint repaired when it first starts to look worn from the sun 's effects. These cars usually never have defroster problems associated with film removal. This is where the quality of the film comes into play. We feel ( just like parachute purchases or any thing else ) that you might pay a little more up front for better quality, but the long run benefits out weigh the initial cost difference.
The Forth Question callers ask is.........
How long does window tint last ?
All window tinting has life spans. Your cheaper economy versions ( which we don't and won't sell ) usually will last you here in Texas 2 to 4 years if you're lucky ( depending on who's putting the window tinting on ). You're better window films will last you a lot longer. We usually recommend and specialize in two particular types of Llumar window films with different warranties for different needs. These auto window films do very well for us and are very predictable. Naturally everyone you talk to is going to tell you that their product is the best. What we'll tell you is that we have tried all sorts of films over the years and we like how the Llumar window film holds up over time. The next section will try to explain to the difference between the two window films.

.......And not to mention, auto window film makes all cars look better (if it is installed properly). The appearance of these films have the traditional tinted look without the purple color you sometimes see driving down the road. They match up very well with factory tints and sunroofs. They are available in several darknesses to which there are window tinting state legalities involved. These films carry a factory backed 3 year nation wide warranty and we generally find these window films to last approximately seven years, if the car see's quite a bit of sunlight and intense heat (& depending on how the vehicle is maintained). If the vehicle is garage kept these films last even longer. The way to view this window film is that You're better having the film take most of the abuse from the sun rather than you or your upholstery. These window films are an affordable choice for people leasing their cars or planning to keep their cars for 5 years or less. This way the person that buys your car from you will have a few good years before they have to replace it. These window films are factory backed with a 3 year nationwide warranty that is good to the original purchaser. Warranty claims can be handled preferably by us or if not then at any authorized Llumar dealer in the United States or Canada at minimum or no charge at all to the customer within the 3 year period.
These window films are our best films. We recommend these window films for all the same reasons as the dyed films above, plus.....

These metalized window films are built heavy duty for longer service. They appear to have a conservative metallic appearance ( not looking like chrome or a mirror ) and also are available in several film darknesses with window tinting state legalities involved. We have been installing these metalized auto window films for over fifteen years and have not had any problems so far. We've had a lot of skeptical customers when deciding which auto window film to install on their cars. They skeptically decide to go with metalized for all the reasons above. They come to pick it up when it's finished. They are usually doing high fives in the parking lot when they see it. We have not had any customers comment that they didn't like the metalized window tinting ( or the dyed window film either ). We strive and are proud to keep it that way. These auto window films come with a factory backed nationwide lifetime warranty. For example, if a customer has us window tint his / her car and that customer moves out of state ( college / job transfer ) and should experience problems with their window film, they wouldn't be stuck having to come back to this state to have repairs made. They could just take it to their nearest Llumar window film dealer ( in the continental U.S. or Canada ) and have repairs made at minimal or no charge at all.
Window Film Summary .....
With either of these two types of window film used, a person should be more than happy with the outcome (particularly the way it's installed). We use factory mounting solutions and all factory supplied materials during installation to ensure long term service to the customer and our reputation. So to simply say, we don't cut corners which ultimately leaves everyone involved in the deal satisfied (and that's what we call a good old fashioned deal).
The fifth question customers ask is.........
What are the legal limits regarding window tint on my car?
Texas has two sets of laws regarding window tinting that have been amended as of 9-1-03 from a film darkness law to a film net law (combined with any existing tint already in the glass) and is current till 9/1/09. 2009 model cars and older will still apply to these laws below, but 2010 models and on will go by the pending legislation law. Passenger cars go by one set of laws and and Multi Purpose Vehicles by another. They are summarized for '09 and older as follows ....
Cars (Passenger Cars)
This law restricts the amount of window film darkness on all side windows combined with any existing tint already in the glass to no darker than a number total of
35%25%LT (LT = light transmission). If the car has 2 outside door mirrors (one on each side) it allows any darkness on the rear wind shield. If the car has only 1 outside mirror the car is only allowed a total of35%25%LT on all windows including the rear wind shield. It does allow front windshields to be tinted measured down from the top of the windshield 5 inches or to the AS1 line which ever measurement comes first (most cars have this AS1 line & some don't). Total of35%25%LT allowed here as well. 1987 and older are not excluded from this law any more.M.P.V. (Multi Purpose Vehicles)
( M.P.V. ) Multi Purpose Vehicle laws restrict the amount of window film darkness on the front doors only combined with any existing tint already in the glass to no darker than a number total of
35%25%LT (LT = light transmission). If the M.P.V. has 2 outside door mirrors (one on each side) it allows any darkness on rest of the rear windows (behind the front doors). If the M.P.V. has only 1 outside mirror the M.P.V. is only allowed a total of35%25%LT on all windows combined with any existing tint already in the glass. No part of front windshields are not allowed to be tinted at all in both cases. It does allow front windshields to be tinted measured down from the top of the windshield 5 inches or to the AS1 line which ever measurement comes first (most M.P.V.s have this AS1 line & some don't). Total of35%25%LT allowed here as well. 1987 and older are not excluded from this law any more.Exemptions:
A vehicle that is: (A) used regularly to transport passengers for a fee; and (B) authorized to operate under license or permit by a local authority.
A vehicle that is maintained by a law enforcement agency and used for law enforcement purposes.
A motor vehicle that is not registered in this state.
Those individual drivers that present a written medical permit and/or a letter of exemption from the Texas Department of Public Safety are exempt from inspection requirements of sun screening devices.
It is not a violation to sell or offer to sell a vehicle with uncertified window film.

The sixth question people ask us is.......
How many different darknesses of window film do I have to choose from?
Here at Blair's Texas Window Tinting we usually deal in several of the most popular darknesses (the number represents the total amount of light transmission that will pass through the film) and they are as follows :
Dyed Non-Reflective Film
# 35% darkness - Is one of our most popular and used film. This film type (dyed) is the darkest that can be used on law restricted windows here in Texas and most other states. It gives a medium darkness appearance. If used on all windows, cars have that nice smooth classy medium tinted O.E.M. look. **Note** There is no available darkness choice between this 35% dyed film type and the 15% dyed film type shown below...
# 15% darkness - Is also a most popular and used film. This film darkness appears dark and is what we use mostly when people request to use darker film on windows allowed by law (usually juuust right when going darker where allowed to by law). Usually used on large, long sloping rear windshields and on unrestricted windows on trucks and S.U.V.s.
Metalized Film (Mildly Reflective/Conservative)
# 38% darkness - Is one of our most popular and used film types. This film darkness fits well within legal limits on law restricted windows here in Texas and most other states. It is mostly used on restricted windows that has an already heavier than average pigmentation within the glass. It gives a medium darkness appearance and a slight glossy appearance similar to polished super clean glass.
# 30% darkness - Is our most popular and used film type. This film darkness is the darkest film made that falls within Texas' new legal limits on law restricted windows here in Texas. It is mostly used on restricted windows that has low pigmentation within the glass. It gives a medium to slightly darker appearance than the 38% listed above and is what requested to us as "maximum legal". It has a slight glossy (conservative) appearance.
# 18% darkness - Is also our most popular and used film type. This film darkness appears pretty dark and is what we use mostly when people request to use darker film on windows allowed by law (usually juuust right when going darker where allowed to by law). Usually used on large, long sloping rear windshields and on unrestricted windows on trucks and S.U.V.s. (where you are not trying to match an already dark factory pigment color).
# 5% darkness - Is our darkest film. This film darkness appears really dark and is what we use mostly when people request to use the darkest available film on unrestricted windows allowed by law. This is what is typically used on limousines, cars with problem air conditioners, sunroofs, etc.....
(Most Legal Reflective)
"35% ONLY" Metalized (highest legal-reflective) - This is the most reflective automotive film made within the line of films we handle. It appears more reflective while still being legal here in Texas and comfortable to drive with. It does not impair day or night vision.
**Note** Anything more "mirrory" could potentially impair night vision such as turning on an interior dome light or on coming head lights shining in the front wind shield causing reflection reversal creating a reflection of yourself trying to look out your window. We have many that want to know the more technical side of the films we most commonly use. For those needing this information, CLICK HERE to see the film specifications.
The seventh question people ask us is.......
How dark will the legal tint look on my car ?
Illusion has a lot to do with how dark the window film appears. For example you can take a white exterior vehicle with a black interior and put a 35% (medium darkness) film on all glasses (which is a legal film in most states that will pass a light meter test) and it appears very dark from the illusion of the contrasting surrounding colors of the car almost appearing illegal. The opposite illusion occurs on black exterior vehicles with light colored interiors (such as light tan or white). These darker colored cars tend to have a more conservative look on the darkness appearance. Interior colors tend to have the most dramatic affect on how the window film darkness appears. This is not to say that the film works better on one or the other. It filters energy transmission equally on both scenarios.
The eighth question people ask us is..........
Will I be able to see out of the windows at night ?
Why certainly so...as long as you turn your headlights on and follow your local tinting laws. In our minds we feel it holds true that laws are made for the mind set of the people that live and govern a particular region. Here in Texas we usually deal with three different darkness ranges (depending on film type used). 35%-28% (darkness used on law restricted windows), 15%-18%, and 5%(limo). Since 1984 we have never had even one person come back in and request a lighter film be reapplied because of night vision problems. In fact our customers comment that they wished the legal limits allowed them a darker choice. We have had a few people that went with our 5% (limo tint as some call it) on unrestricted windows allowed by law and comment it's no problem but, it does take a little getting used to it being on there, but in their same sentence say they wouldn't do it differently because they like it. Keep in mind the darker you go where you're allowed to, the more heat and energy is filtered. However we do recommend to a person that has bad vision problems (but, good enough to have a driver's license) to stay towards the lighter end of the darkness scale just to be completely on the safe side of things.
The ninth question people ask us is.......
Should I wait till a nice sunny day to have my auto windows tinted ?
Any day is a nice day to have your windows tinted! Weather conditions during window tinting installations does not affect the final outcome of the installation (unless you're in a hurricane or tornado). We've Installed window film on days when it was 107°f as well as 8°f, rain, snow, or shine. The only thing we noticed is the curing time varies by a few hours. People find that rainy/cold days are sometimes better for window tinting because of less crowds (from weather misconceptions about installations) which means quicker turnout times for you.
The tenth question people usually ask is........
How long will it take to window tint my car?
Usually we tell people to figure on 1 day in most cases ( drop it off in the morning and pick it up in the evening ). Sometimes customers have to wait with their cars while the window film is installed. In these cases figure on 2 to 3 hours to do it right without rushing through the installation. We suggest customers, if interested in having window tinting done, give us a few days notice to set up an appointment so everything rolls smoothly. Most window film jobs are completed within 1 day. Figure on a 2 to 3 day drying period after installation meaning that the window (s) can not be rolled down or worked during that time. The fresh window film appears a little blurry during the drying period which is not to be mistaken for problems. We usually tell people to give things a week. And after this time something still doesn't look right then please don't be bashful and let us know. Window films do take two weeks to fully cure (in most cases) to look like they are supposed to, but the window (s) can rolled down and worked 2 to 3 days after installation. You can call for an appointment at Blair's Texas Window Tinting & more in Dallas TX. (972) 783-6005 during our normal business hours
The eleventh question usually asked is......
How do I care for my window film ?
We usually tell people just to treat their window tinting like the paint on their car ( except no waxing ) and just don't let it get so dirty you can grow potatoes on it. Clean your window film with mild soap and water on the inside (which is where the film is installed) and on the outside of the car you can use whatever you like.
* Note* Use of harsh cleaners such as Windex TM or other ammonia based cleaners if used on any window films out there WILL shorten the life span of the window film.
We only recommend using a damp towel (like the towel you have just dried your clean car with at the car wash) or a mild dish washing soap and water solution mixture (ratio we like is 1 small drop of liquid soap, or baby shampoo, to 1 quart of water (1 quart spray bottle) or a professional silicone polish/cleaner made specifically for use on window film only. You can remove stubborn garbage such as tar (from road hazards or repairs), chewing gum and crayons (kids), old tape adhesive (from paper license plates or stickers stuck to the film) etc... by using a very small amount of 100% mineral spirits (not lacquer thinner!) and a soft towel if not done on a regular basis and used very moderately.
If you should have any more window tinting questions other the ones above, please feel free to give us a call at Blairs Texas Window Tinting & more in Dallas TX. We have a lot of people call in and tell us that they just bought a used car and ask us how to remove the old bad window film from it themselves (no telling where it was done, what brand it is, or any warranty information on it). We have many people ask us .....
Does Clear Pre Cut Paint Protection Film Really Work?
Yes....Blair's Texas Window Tinting & more sells do it yourself installation kits (with all necessary tools and instructions included) and installs these crystal clear pre-cut paint protection film kits as well. These kits ARE NOT WINDOW FILM, however very similar in the fact that it's a film applied in the same fashion as window tint that protects the exterior of your vehicle while appearing almost invisible (way, way nicer looking than the traditional plastic bolt on bug shields and front end bras). These film kits protect your brand new expensive vehicle(s) from road hazards such as bug acids, stone chips, road salt, sand, etc...against paint damage that occurs while driving down the road. This product is excellent protection for hoods, painted bumpers, door edges, valances, mirrors, and rocker panels (all forward facing painted surfaces and then some) while still allowing the paint color brilliance to shine through. These kits are the same material used to protect the front ends of many race cars and many other high performance applications.
